Needle for very fine micro-rooting. Top quality Felting needles made in Germany. The needle size (42, 43) refers to the thickness of the needle. The higher the number the finer the point of the needle. There are also differences between the alignment and size of the barbs. Comprehensive trials have been done to determine which needles we should stock. Due to the fact that mohair, depending on the quality and age of the animal, can come in different thicknesses, the rooting results can often vary, even when the same needles are used. The softness/thickness of the vinyl can also heavily affect the result. Therefore, there isn’t a single needle that is suitable for every job. Instead, we have a range of needles that, depending on the job at hand, we think will deliver the best results with our vinyl.
46g Felting - Three barbs arranged around the needle. This means that as a rule only one barb takes a hair with it when rooting. The needle has a 46g point and fine barbs. This makes it particularly good for medium/fine mohair and vinyl. With the 46g there are practically no holes visible. (1-2 hairs depending on mohair).
Please note: Conical needles should never be used as they leave a much larger hole than necessary. If the needles are made from German alloyed-steel you will have no problems with breakages. The quality of the steel means that the needles break less often. We are delighted to be able to offer you these top-of-the-range German needles.
When you want to warm up the head for the rooting process itself, it's best to use a sock filled with rice, heated in a microwave and put inside the head. Though no negative effects have been reported, it's not recommended to put the head itself into an oven to warm it up. (note from Adriesdolls: Vinyl itself was never intended to being heated in an oven anyway).
